Kwik Trip is expanding its enterprises throughout the Cippewa Valley, and Altoona residents will continue to see big changes while it does. Not only is the company expanding and remodeling their store at 2367 Spooner Avenue, but it also purchased the former Shell Station, located near the intersection of U.S. Highway 53 and U.S. Highway 12 just outside the Altoona city limits in Eau Claire.

On Tuesday, January 1, The Picket Fence flower shop relocated to 1427 Spooner Avenue. After working out of her home for years, owner Wendy Thompson could not be more excited. The floral shop is adjacent to the Spooner Avenue Laundromat. When given the opportunity to open her business alongside that and the BP Amoco gas station, Thompson jumped at the chance.

The Kwik Trip convenience store at 2367 Spooner Avenue will have a different look by the end of summer 2008, as plans are in the works to build a 1,500 square foot addition onto the south side of the building, which will make room for an expanded beer cave, cash register station, and coffee bar. Along with the addition, the entire building will be refaced in brick.

Among the discussions at the February 14 city council meeting, the city’s plans to develop an area of land on the 700 block of South Willson Drive into a housing development were focused on. The plan commission accepted the preliminary plat proposal for what will be called Barland Prairie Subdivision on Monday, February 11, and the council approved it as well. The proposal will now go back to the plan commission on March 10, then to a subsequent meeting before the council.

City of Eau Claire Building Inspector Steve Maley said the house at 1348 East Shore Drive in the Town of Washington is not condemned but has been repossessed by the bank for several code violations, lack of final inspection, and zoning issues.
