Three runners from Altoona braved the chilly temperatures and windy conditions at the Indianhead Track Club’s Frigid 8 and Thermal 3 races in Chippewa Falls on Saturday, December 6.
Jim Janezic, Mike Weiser, and Tracy Geiger of Altoona were among the 47 runners to take part in the Frigid 8, while 54 runners participated in the Thermal 3. Janezic finished second in the 40-49 age group and ninth overall with a time of 59:05, while Weiser placed third in the 60-69 age group with a time of 1:12:49. Geiger crossed the finish line in 1:15:36, good for sixth in the 18-29 age group. Brady Anderson of Eau Claire was the top finisher, completing the course in 49:27, while Heidi Jarecki of Eau Claire won the women’s division with a time of 1:03:20.
“The Frigid 8 is aptly named,” said Weiser. “The north wind was tough. It was a tough race.”
“The Indianhead Track Club does a good job of getting people out,” he added. “They did an excellent job that day because of the weather conditions.”
