Recently, the Eau Claire Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) received a $7,000 grant from the Eau Claire Community Foundation. This grant money will go towards equipment, ongoing training, and veterinary care for the office’s K9 unit, which works closely with police departments in the area, including the Altoona Police Department.

At 7:02 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, the Township Fire Department, with ground support from the Altoona Fire Department, responded to a call regarding two young women who were trapped between two spillways on the Lake Altoona Dam. Despite the rushing water and swift currents that commonly surround these dam “safety valves,” the two departments, with help from two Eau Claire Fire Department medics, rescued the women by 8:21 p.m.
