Rails get back to .500 with 14-2 romp over Macks

The Altoona Railroaders ended the regular season with their fourth straight victory as the Rails cruised past the Chippewa Falls McDonell/Eau Claire Regis Macks by a 14-2 score. This win evens the Rails’ record at 10-10 as they enter the playoffs on Tuesday night, when they host Medford.

Hockey team set scoring records, finished .500

bhky10web.jpgThe Altoona boys’ hockey team finished their 2007-2008 season on a strong note, putting together a five-game winning streak before losing out to sectional finalist Lakeland in the second round of the playoffs. The resulting 11-11 record marked the sixth consecutive season the Railroaders finished at .500 or better after only three such seasons in the first 21 years of the program.

Hockey season ends with loss at Lakeland

The Altoona Railroaders concluded the WIAA playoffs with a 4-2 loss to the second-seeded Lakeland Thunderbirds in Minocqua on Friday night. The Rails played a good game but just came up on the short end of the score in this closely contested matchup. Lakeland out-shot Altoona for the game by only two shots, 33-31, but scored off special teams and key Rail turnovers. The first period saw Lakeland with a slight edge in the play as they out-shot Altoona 14-9 for the period. Zach Vaughan did a nice job in goal throughout this game and he kept the Rails alive with an excellent first period to keep the game scoreless.

AHS Boys’ Hockey: Rails win first playoff game over Medford

The Altoona Railroaders opened the WIAA playoffs with a convincing 10-2 win over the tenth-seeded Medford Raiders in Altoona on Tuesday night. The Rails started the scoring just 12 seconds into the game and continued the onslaught throughout the game.

Boys’ Hockey: Five Rails tally multiple points in win at Park Falls

The Altoona Rails put together one of their best performances of the year when they traveled to Park Falls to play the Cardinals. Altoona trailed 3-1 after one period but roared back in the second to take the lead and finished off the third period for a convincing win.

AHS Boys’ Hockey: Rails lose pair of games to Webster/Siren and La Crescent

he Altoona Rails dropped their second game of the year to the Webster/Siren (WS) Blizzard at Grantsburg on Thursday night. The Blizzard defeated the Rails 6-3 by scoring three power play goals and getting two assists from the officials.
