Altoona plays for American Legion Baseball team

   American Legion Baseball is a national program designed to develop the skills of high school-level baseball players. Teams are comprised of high school-aged players from the same area, including five from Altoona that play on teams in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls.

Success for 14U baseball team: Altoona natives play key role at tourney

14uwinweb.jpgThe Altoona 14-and-under traveling baseball team won the Gopher State Tournament of Champions, which occured the weekend of Friday, July 18. This puts an exclamation point on an already outstanding season for a team that is comprised of players from the region who have yet to play at the high school level.

AYSB baseball tournament a success

allstarweb.jpg   Thirty-four youth baseball teams played in Altoona from Friday, June 27 to Sunday, June 29 as part of the Altoona All-Star Blast.
   The tournament, which was organized and funded by Altoona Youth Softball & Baseball (AYSB) and included teams in four age brackets from 9-and-under to 12-and-under, was held at Cinder City Park, 10th Street Park, and Devney Park. According to tournament organizers, it was a successful weekend.

14U wins series qualifier

photo1web.jpg   The Altoona Traveling Baseball Team qualified for the United States Specialty Sports Association World Series by winning a 14-and-under qualifier tournament in River Falls on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29.
   The team suffered a tournament-opening 6-5 loss to Hudson, but rebounded with an 11-1 win over River Falls, and then defeated Prescott 5-4 in extra innings to earn a berth in the title game. There, they faced Prescott again, winning 10-2 to claim the tournament championship.   Altoona also has a tournament victory in the Robbinsdale AA Tournament, as well as two second-place finishes, in River Falls and in Burnsville, Minn.

16U Lady Diamonds win tourney championship

16uladydiamondsweb.jpg   From Friday, June 13 to Sunday, June 15, softball diamonds across Altoona came to life as the 12th Annual Altoona Classic brought together softball teams from across the region. The softball tournament took place at Cinder City Park, Devney Park, and 10th Street Park, using all six diamonds. Games were consistently being played throughout the daylight hours.
