The Altoona 14-and-under traveling baseball team won the Gopher State Tournament of Champions, which occured the weekend of Friday, July 18. This puts an exclamation point on an already outstanding season for a team that is comprised of players from the region who have yet to play at the high school level.

The Altoona Traveling Baseball Team qualified for the United States Specialty Sports Association World Series by winning a 14-and-under qualifier tournament in River Falls on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29.
The team suffered a tournament-opening 6-5 loss to Hudson, but rebounded with an 11-1 win over River Falls, and then defeated Prescott 5-4 in extra innings to earn a berth in the title game. There, they faced Prescott again, winning 10-2 to claim the tournament championship. Altoona also has a tournament victory in the Robbinsdale AA Tournament, as well as two second-place finishes, in River Falls and in Burnsville, Minn.
