The Osseo-Fairchild/Altoona/Augusta co-op wrestling team had a busy start to 2009 with seven dual matches in a five-day span, defeating Abbotsford/Colby 40-34 in Osseo on Thursday, January 8, going 2-3 at their home tournament on Saturday, January 10, and then losing by tiebreaker to Whitehall on Tuesday, January 13.

Altoona’s Justin Poirier took fourth place at 152 pounds and his brother, Jeremy Poirier, placed fifth at 160 pounds to help the Osseo-Fairchild/Altoona/Augusta co-op wrestling team to a sixth-place among Division 1 teams at Northern Badger Wrestling Meet in River Falls on Monday and Tuesday, December 29 and 30.

The Osseo-Fairchild/Altoona/Augusta co-op wrestling team defeated Blair-Taylor 39-36 in Blair on Thursday, December 11, and then placed eighth out of 16 teams at the Eau Claire North Husky Invite on Saturday, December 13.

The Osseo-Fairchild/Altoona/Augusta wrestling team won the first tournament championship in the three-year history of the co-op program, winning five dual matches in Necedah on Saturday, December 6.
The Dragons (6-0) recorded close victories over Tri-County/Almond/Bancroft, Pittsville, and Laconia, and blew out Wautoma/Faith Christian and Necedah to win the tournament.

The Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Altoona co-op wrestling team opened its season with a 48-27 win over Loyal in Osseo on Tuesday, December 2.
Jeremy Poirier of Altoona pinned the Greyhounds’ Jimmy Mattson in four minutes to earn the Dragons a victory at 160 pounds, and Altoona 103-pounder Ryan Hanson was one of five OFAA wrestlers to win by forfeit in the victory. Besides Poirier, the Dragons also got pins from 130-pounder Dalton Buckmaster and heavyweight Nolan Schenn, both of Osseo-Fairchild.
The Dragons will not return home to Osseo until January, as their next five meets are on the road, beginning with a trip to Necedah on Saturday, December 6. They travel to Blair-Taylor on Thursday, December 11, and then to Eau Claire North for a tournament on Saturday, December 13.

With almost the entire team returning from a year ago, the Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Altoona co-op wrestling team is hoping for a big season.
“We’ve got 31 kids out right now,” said coach Jeff Larson. “We were at 22 or 23 last year, but we only lost one senior, brought some freshmen in, and a couple other people came out of the woodwork.”
